Parasol

bicycling with a parasol
It's a hot and sunny day here, but still I was surprised to see a lady riding with her parasol down the bike lane on Cambridge Street, Cambridge. Her orange parasol matches her orange fender.

She maintained her sun protection even as she dismounted at her destination!

Is she riding with a U-lock in her back pocket? That seems like it would be really uncomfortable, or at least really... uneven.

Let's see: one hand on the handlebars; one hand on the parasol; one cheek on the saddle; one cheek on the U-lock; pedal away? This woman is far more coordinated than I!

delightful.
I'm a big parasol fan and need to find mine. I've found the cover for the sorte to be a bit hot for the kids and thought of keeping a parasol for them to hold up on extra sunny days

Yes, she does have a U lock in her back pocket. I'm not sure this is the safest thing she's ever done, but it was dramatic and everyone noticed her! She was going pretty slowly.

Parasols are growing on me, but I still don't think I could or would ride a bike with one. MamaVee, would you worry about it acting like a sail when deployed by little people?

I like parasols but with the exception of a lovely, elderly Japanese women protecting her face from the strong rays of the sun last week at the Grand Canyon, rarely see women carrying them. I'm impressed that this woman can carry a parasol and ride a bike. I've proven completely inept at carrying anything in one hand while riding a bike. I even have to stop to take a sip out of my water bottle.

Cyclists riding with umbrellas are very common in Amsterdam.

Not enough sun for parasols.
